Profile

Phocos is one of the largest suppliers of off-grid power supply systems components in the world. Headquartered in Ulm, Germany, Phocos develops, designs and manufactures products to suit the needs of all stake-holders in the global solar power market.

Phocos' mission is to promote efficient application of stand alone PV systems by providing high quality, reliable and low cost energy storage technology and components.

Today, Phocos has operations on six continents with fourteen subsidiaries & rep. offices. Products are available all over the world.

History

The history of Phocos can be traced back to the mid-eighties, when a group of engineers at the University of Applied Sciences in Ulm started to develop new technologies for solar charge regulators.

Since 1991 the developed technologies are implemented in a series products.

In late 2000, the team of engineers together with further shareholders (among them the Centre for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research in Ulm and Stuttgart) created the Phocos AG. Since then Phocos develops, produces and distributes innovative products for autonomous electricity supply systems.

Technological Background

Product development concentrates particularly on the problem of energy
storage in autonomous electricity supply systems. Our goal is to increase efficiency and reliability and to lower the cost through intelligent production, storage and consumption of energy.

Phocos can rely on the experience of its engineers and on a number of co-operations. The enterprise is connected with the University of Applied Sciences in Ulm by a tradition of many years.

Phocos co-operates with the Centre for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research particularly in the field of fuel-cell technology, which is considered as an essential component for future electricity supply systems. In the year 2001 a photovoltaic fuel-cell hybrid demonstration system was presented for the first time.
