PSW-H: Run Important AC loads with a failed utility grid and no batteries
If using the Phocos Any-Grid PSW-H Hybrid Inverter in a grid-connected scenario without batteries, one may think that in case of a grid outage there is absolutely no power available. This would be true of virtually all hybrid inverters operating with no battery and no AC power source.
However, not so with the Any-Grid PSW-H Series. When using a single Any-Grid PSW-H, the unit can actually power AC loads directly from PV array, with no battery and no other AC power source!
Requirements:
• Use only a single Any-Grid PSW-H unit and ensure its AC output mode is set to SIG / single
• Do not use AC loads with high peak current draw, as the Any-Grid PSW-H does not have a battery bank to buffer such peaks in this use-case
• Ensure power consumed is lower than the solar PV power generated in real time
What is this good for?
In case of a utility grid black-out, even without investing in a battery bank and without a gasoline generator, some of the most important loads can continue to be powered such as:

• Refrigerator / freezer
• Laptop, tablets, and phones
• Television, radio
• Internet infrastructure
How does this work?
The Any-Grid PSW-H Hybrid Inverter Series is one of the only products on the market with the ability to power generic AC loads directly from the solar array in a grid tied system. The Any-Grid PSW-H is able to balance generated PV power with the AC power required, even with no battery or other power source. Please ensure that only the most necessary AC equipment is being powered to reduce the risk of the load power being larger than available solar power. If this happens anyway (bad weather or at night), then the Any-Grid PSW-H will simply turn off all AC loads as there is no alternative power source. Once solar PV is available again, it will attempt to power the AC loads anew. If there is insufficient solar power for the connected loads, the Any-Grid PSW-H will immediately turn off again and re-try every 5 minutes. On sunny days with little or no clouds, even larger loads can be powered off several kilowatts, such a washing machine or even a dishwasher, if a sufficiently large PV array is installed (only recommended during very predictable sunny weather).
