Five OEM / ODM services that boost revenue for our partners

Welcome back readers!  For those of you who have not already read Part 1 of this 3-part blog series on ODM/OEM service, I encourage you to do so. For those of you who have read Part 1 or are simply the adventurous sort, let’s dive in on the types of ODM/OEM services Phocos has provided in the past to give you a sense of the possibilities.

ODM and OEM customization options from Phocos are numerous and vary in scope and complexity.  Historically, MPPT and PWM solar charge controllers, fit many customer requirements for various applications.  The proven quality and effective performance Phocos offers is highly respected in the off-grid industry.  Be assured, we are able to offer this same level of support, service and customization with all products in our catalog.  Below are a few examples of ODM and OEM customization services we have supplied our channel partners over the last two decades:

1. Optimized Battery Charging

In Phocos’s world, we estimate that greater than 99% of batteries used in solar off-grid and edge-of-grid applications are based on either Lead Acid or Lithium-Ion chemistries.  While batteries within these two buckets often share common traits, all batteries are not created equal.  As such, to achieve maximum battery lifespan for the most fragile component of an off-grid or edge-of-grid system, giving the battery precisely what it needs when it needs it is essential.  For a solar charge controller or hybrid inverter, this can be achieved by preprogramming custom charging setpoints and times, according to battery manufacturer recommendations, or in some cases with Lithium-Ion batteries, through bi-directional communication with the Battery Management System (“BMS”).

2. Co-Branding/Private Labelling

Brands matter to consumers.  While consumers recognize Phocos as a pioneer and leader in off-grid and edge-of-grid power systems, we acknowledge our brand may not be top-of-mind to consumers of all-terrain vehicles or mobile phones for example.  The right product with the right branding enables mass market appeal which is essential to achieving volume scale.  Co-branding or private labelling with Phocos offers an easy path to get to market faster without sacrificing quality.

3. Customized Power Input/Output Ratings

Our standard portfolio of power conversion products is aimed at the “meat” of the bell-curve of off-grid and unreliable grid applications.  But, with the rapid pace of innovation of power generators and power consumers (“Loads”) is such that we occasionally need to find new ways to tweak our standard products to keep pace with these advancements.  Have a high-volume OEM product application that is outside the power capacity of our standard products? 4. Custom Fit-and Finish

Sometimes what’s inside the product is perfect, but the product simply doesn’t match the installation location or method.  From custom product footprints, to specialized housings, to cable harnessing, we’ve done it all to ensure the perfect fit and finish for the job.  Phocos has multiple solar charge controller options specifically designed to handle harsh weather environments, often required by partners catering to a certain region or application.  Our proven product performance makes these specific requirements a reality for reliable, autonomous performance.  

5. Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) Sub-assemblies

Some applications require adding renewable energy management functionality to an existing electronic design without the need for an external housing. We have worked together with key application partners to design PCBA sub-assemblies that fit seamlessly into existing electronics. Phocos integrates a hassle-free assembly to fit the needs of the OEM designer and/or contract manufacturer (CM).
